How to make a gift of stocks and bonds

Stock Transfer Instructions

Thank you for your interest in making a charitable contribution to Holt International in the form of a securities transfer. For stock held in brokerage accounts, your financial advisor or trust officer can assist you in making a gift of stock via a direct transfer to Holt International. Please note the following information:

Broker: Morgan Stanley Smith Barney
Account Name: Holt International Children's Services, Inc.
Account: 149-107604-065
DTC: 0015
Holt Tax ID#: 23-7257390
Broker Contact: Rick Farley; Telephone Number: 541-341-3406; Email address: rick.farley@mssb.com

Not all mutual funds transfer through our DTC number. In this case, and for gifts of stock not held in a brokerage account, please contact Andrew McNall at Holt International at 541-505-5549, or email at andrewm@holtinternational.org. It is also helpful for Holt to be notified of intended transfers and eventual use of funds.

By certified mail - If you hold securities in certificate form, you will need to mail two envelopes separately to complete your gift. In the first envelope, place the unsigned stock certificate(s). In the other envelope, include a signed stock power for each certificate. You may obtain this power from your broker or bank. Please remember to use certified mail.

More on gifts of stocks and bonds

There are special rules for valuing a gift of stock. The value of a charitable gift of stock is determined by taking the mean between the high and low stock price on the date of the gift. Mutual fund shares are valued using the closing price for the fund on the date of the gift.
